MEET THE ABBOTT PROPERTIES LEADERSHIP TEAM
Matt Abbott is the Founder and Principal Partner of Abbott Properties, a Kansas City-based real estate development and management firm dedicated to not only rehabilitating buildings, but to transforming neighborhoods and building communities. Where other developers may see blight, Matt sees—and invests in—potential. Whether he’s participating in Ironman competitions or creating visions for properties, Matt remains focused on growth, possibilities, and empowerment through action.
In 2017, in honor of his late son Carter and together with his wife, Emily, Matt created the Who Is Carter Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to inspiring and empowering families of children with brain damage—and, ultimately, anyone facing a personal tragedy or struggle. Matt is also the author of Who Is Carter?, a book about his experience and the foundation.

Director of Creative Design
Emily Abbott is the creative pulse behind Abbott Properties’ many projects. She uses her education in, experience with, and passion for design to ensure each property is unique both inside and out. Emily has a knack for designing spaces that contribute to both the beauty and functionality of communities, and she sources inspiration both locally and abroad. She has been an integral force behind the revitalization of the Crossroads East Arts District with her work on Hotel Indigo and The Abbott. Emily doesn’t just bring character to projects—she also guides the website development, videography, photography, graphic design, and branding for Abbott Properties.
Emily’s passion for creativity is matched by her passion for philanthropy. Alongside her husband Matt and in honor of her late son Carter, Emily also co-founded Who Is Carter, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing empowerment, resources, and information for families of children with brain injuries.
